Poetry by BJ Brown

Capture What

Capture what’s left of me and don’t let go

found the way to comfortable misery

even my tears have memories I don’t know

cause my song’s all strummed out, you see?

Yet I can’t blame anyone but self

trapped in your every trajectory

I shiver and leave Me on the shelf

lost in your life’s flight plan

like a leaf from Mt Everest’s tree

a raindrop tossed in a tsunami

I’m weathered by your love

and my eyes hug that pain with tenacity

likened to the sexiest blues note

both squeezing yet ignoring whatever leaks

pouring all energy into what it seeks

There’s a definition somewhere in there

a clarity in that mess of me

not just a face but a core of being

that’ll change what all see

but my mirror mocks my eyes

my voice taunts my ears

and the definition gets lost

in my passion and my fears

somehow, I’m pasting you there

crazy glued to something I thought was joy

stapled to a fog that imitates a statue

a still moment of what I was

or could be

but who’s page of truth defines me?

So I collect these pages, these tears,

store up the leaves, the notes, the fears

breathe in the dismissals, the secondary status

and re-offer this obese gift of me on my knees

spilling me about, whispering over your daily shout

“love me, need me”

“imprison me, just don’t leave me…”
